T3 purchase Advice / (introdcution) Hi The T3 is generally a pretty reliable old work horse. They are generally fairly bulletproof so long as it has been looked after. All the big block models, both 850 and 1000 twins share the same basic components, just different trims and some have a bit livelier engine (Le-Mans 1000s etc)

Nothing out of the ordinary to look out for.

Shaft has a Universal joint in it, try and feel for vibes in the right footrest when test riding as this is a sign of wear. There will be quite a bit of backlash in the drive train when rocking the bike back and forth, this is normal.

Front engine mount bolt can seize if never lubricated and moved occasionally. It sits just below the alternator on the front of the engine.

Electrics can be a problem if they have been messed about by previous owners, but if looked after then should be OK

Engines are good so long as have had regular oil changes. The filter can get overlooked as it is inside the sump!

The engine should sound tappety, if it doesn’t then they are probably too tight

Timing chain had a manual tensioner when first made, this will last around 30K miles till it strtches and starts to chew the cover. Ask if the chain has been replaced and a later auto tensioner has been fitted.

Where abouts are you, maybe someone could come along and take a look?

Also try posting on the main forum rather than here, far greater readers and contributors

The T3 is a great bike, a relaxed ride, loads of character, good brakes, fantastic engine the linked brakes are brilliant once you get used to them.

Don’t worry about the torque effect, people will say it is bad, you will hardly notice it when riding.

Hope you get it and enjoy it.

But beware Guzzis are addictive, one is never enough!

first off, if guzzi bring out a bike that harks back to their illustrious past then all power to them and if it helps get people of their rice rockets and onto a guzzi then thats a bonus,

we must remember the original v7sport was a 750 not an 1100 ,

and as for riding a norge instead well thats all well and good if your 6’tall and over. also take into account that power-wise guzzi’s hands are tied thanks to the meddling e.u.

gone are the days of guzzi’s breathing through open 40mm dellorto’s and exhaling through unsilenced lafranconi’s that pleasure is available to us that choose to ride older guzzi’s untouched (fingers crossed)by the environMENTALists.

as for saying its a bike for girls whats wrong with that ?

my wife rides my 850 mk1 le-mans occaisionaly and nobody to my knowledge has called my bike a girls bike.

and what is a normal weight adult male ?if your talking 15 stone plus then thats why god made hardlyworthitsons !

so my advice to walrus909 keep on enjoying it don’t let anybody put you off it, its a great bike .
