As much as Helio Castroneves and Danica Patrick want to return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, they will have to wait for a month, at least, according to recent estimates. This comes after the organizers postponed the testing event because of the incoming bad weather about to hit Indianapolis in the coming days.
The IndyCar testing for the Indy 500 will now move from March 27 to April 5 to April 30 to May 2.
Other than Castroneves and Patrick, the other members scheduled for testing on April 30 include: Marco Andretti, Ed Carpenter, Sebastien Bourdais, Max Chilton, Gabby Chaves, Jack Harvey, Scott Dixon, Ryan Hunter-Reay, James Hinchcliffe, Tony Kanaan, Ed Jones, Josef Newgarden, Charlie Kimball, Spencer Pigot, Simon Pagenaud, Graham Rahal, Takuma Sato, Will Power, Alexander Rossi, and Zach Veach.
The rest are expected to go through drivers testing on Tuesday and Wednesday.
With the new testing schedule, the IndyCar Open Test will now run from 10 am to 12 noon with a one-hour lunch break before resuming on 1 pm to 5 pm on the 30th of April. Fans will have access to the entire test drive from various locations, including the Turn 2 viewing mounds, Museum parking lot, and South Terrace Grandstands. Additionally, IndyCar will cover the test on their YouTube channel as well, so fans are free to watch online as well.
The Indy 500 is part of the so-called Triple Crown of Motorsport. This is a term used to describe the three most prestigious motorsports events in the world today, which includes the aforementioned Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana, the Monaco Grand Prix, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Takuma Sota is the current champion of the Indy 500, having won the race back in 2017. He'll look to fend off heavy favorite Hélio Castroneves, who currently holds the record for the active driver with most Indy 500 victories with three.
