Harley-Davidson FLHX Street Glide

2012 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Review

Eat up the miles in comfort on the stripped down 2012 FLHX Street Glide

The Harley-Davidson Street Glide bagger returns for 2012 with the usual lack of chrome trim, it’s signature low suspension, and the blacked-out low height windshield. The Street Glide is based on the Harley-Davidson Touring chassis which has a single-spar, rigid backbone frame and a beefed up swing arm. The swing arm was re-designed in 2009 handle the demands of long-haul touring riders and the latest more powerful engines.

The Proven Bat-Wing Fairing

Chief Styling Officer Willie G. Davidson, designed the nimble, fork-mounted Bat-Wing fairing way back in 1969, and it is still a symbol of the American Touring Motorcycle after more than forty years of production. The low profile, smoked windshield is unique to the Street Glide and gives this model its distinctive look.

GTX Harley-Davidson Saddlebags

The 2012 FLHX Street Glide continues to be a great Touring Motorcycle with the included GTX injection-molded saddlebags. They have 2.26 cu. ft. of storage space for those long weekend trips, and are finished in the same paint finish as the bike. The hardware and locking latches on these saddle bags are also color matched to the rest of the bike, rather than the chrome finish on the rest of the Harley Touring line of bikes.

Unlike some of the metric bike offerings, these bags are top opening. This prevents your cargo from spilling all over the highway when you open the bags, and helps with the weather proofing as well. The locks on these bags use the same key as the ignition and the locking gas cap for more convenience.

Ad in the optional electronic cruise control and the high output electrical system for powering the included stereo and any other electronics you might add, and you have the perfect Touring Bike and Street Killer.

Premium Harley-Davidson Paint Finish

Like all Harley-Davidson motorcycles, the paint finish on the Street Glide is up to two times thicker than the competition. The clear-coat layering is also much thicker at up to five mils. The paint also has bigger metal flakes and features Harley’s special “Sunglo” and “Pearl” colors.

To add to this premium paint finish, all Harley-Davidson gas tanks are finished by hand, unlike most of competition.

Made For Touring Fuel Tank

This 2012 Street Glide has a 22.7 liter fuel tank eliminating the need for constant fuel stops on those long road trips. It also gives the bike much more real estate for showing off that amazing paint job. The fuel tank is finished off precision-crafted Harley-Davidson tank medallions that complete the hot looks of this street fighter.

New Twin Cam 103™ Engine

The 2012 Street Glide now comes equipped with the air cooled Twin Cam 103™ Harley Davidson® engine. This engine delivers more stump pulling torque, while its Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection jetting gives crisp, lively throttle response. You will appreciate it’s performance when passing, climbing long hills, or rolling with luggage packed and or a passenger.

The Twin Cam 103 is coupled to a Six Speed Cruise Drive transmission that provides smooth, quit shifting and reduces engine rpm at highway speeds. This allows you ride with less engine vibration and better highway fuel economy.

Harley-Davidson Twin Cam Engine Styling

There is no mistaking the Twin Cam 103™ engine’s heritage. This is engine has Harley-Davidson style with attention to detail you won’t find from any other motorcycle company. Black powder-coated heads and cylinders are highlighted by machined cooling fin tips and chrome rocker covers.

From the polished edges of the cooling fins to the polished cases and covers, the Twin Cam 103 engine is true to its famous roots.
