Fans of the annual Red Bull Global Rallycross will have to wait a few more days so as to know whether or not the event will be held at Lauderdale this year.

Reports indicate that the race event in itself is not on the commission’s agenda come Tuesday. At the same time, city officials stated that they are currently in talks with the organizers of the event and are expecting that the commission will begin voting on the proposal during its May 5th meeting.

Sources close to the matter have stated that the organizers of the event are looking at closing down one of the city’s beachside street which is usually very busy. In addition to that they intend on broadcasting a car race event on the streets come next month.

That said there are reports that tickets for the event are currently being sold online despite the fact that city officials have not yet given the green light for the event to be staged at Lauderdale.

The tickets for the series opener of the 2015 season which is scheduled to be on 30th and 31st May are being peddled by Red Bull Global Rallycross. If the organizers do get their way and the event will be staged in Lauderdale, the city’s portion of State Road A1A which is near Bahia Mar south of Las Olas Boulevard.

The organizers request will be considered by city commissioners on Tuesday next week. Commissioner Dean Trantalis stated that the closure of A1A for most part of the weekend is a non-starter.

According to Trantalis, “It's unfair to our residents and the tourists who come to our city.” He added that, “I don't even know how it got past the application process.”
