Intro
The 2006 Harley-Davidson Sportster is the American manufacturers entry-level cruiser. The most affordable bike in its lineup, the Sportster is available in seven sub-models – the 883, 883 Low, 883 Custom, 883R, 1200 Roadster, 1200 Low, and the 1200 Custom. All of the models feature Harley-Davidsons Evolution V-Twin engine, but the 1200s have a larger, more powerful 1199cc version of the engine, compared to the smaller models 883cc engine.
The 883 family of Harley-Davidson Sportsters is instantly recognizable because stylistically, it looks nearly identical to its predecessors. The peanut fuel tank, the staggered dual exhaust, the single-rider seat (on the 883 and 883 Low only), and the distinctive 13-spoke cast aluminum wheels combine to give the bike its trademark sporty look. However, while it might resemble its predecessors, the 2006 Harley-Davidson Sportster does offer some valuable improvements.
First, the 2006 lineup of Sportsters features a brand new five-speed transmission with a lighter clutch that allows for a more seamless and smoother shifting experience. Coupled with the rubber-mounted XL Evolution 883cc (or 1199cc) engine, the new transmission helps improve the bikes fluidity on the roadway, making shifting easier and smoother, while the vibration-isolation technology used to mount the engine virtually eliminates any vibration throughout the bike. The end result is the most comfortable Sportster ever.
The new sidestand is another popular feature of the 2006 Harley-Davidson Sportster. Thanks to this improvement, the effort required to lift the bike off the stand is reduced by 40 percent, making it a much more accessible bike for smaller-stature riders.
Adding to the overall comfort of the Sportsters ride is its telescopic front fork suspension, and steel twin-sided swing arm suspension on its rear. The 292mm front and rear disc brakes make stopping the Harley-Davidson Sportster a thing of beauty. Finally, the super-low profile of the bike, especially in the case of the aptly named 883 Low and 1200 Low, makes controlling the bike on any type of surface a breeze.
Visually, the 2006 Harley-Davidson Sportster is gorgeous. With its retro-sport styling and plenty of leather and chrome attributes, this bike is guaranteed to turn heads. Finished off with a paint job thats second to none, and the iconic Harley-Davidson placard emblazoned alongside the fuel tank, there is no doubt that this motorcycle is the all-American classic.

The 2006 Harley-Davidson Sportster is a carryover model that features most of the same components and design aesthetics as the previous years model, but it does feature a new light-effort clutch, a new sidestand design, and a smoother, quieter transmission.
