KTM 250 SX-F 2012: Electric Orange!

April 29, 2012 | Filed under: KTM | Posted by: Rana Abaidullah

This year the 4-stroke KTM Cross range change only very little: the only major new feature is found on the side of the KTM 250 SX-F, which in turn adopts an electric starter. The apparition the magic button changes he faces Finalist for our 2011 compare Cross? Here’s our verdict…

KTM 250 SX-F 2012: Test

Finalist in our survey 250 Cross 2011, the 250 SX-deserved clinched second place, tied with the Suzuki RM-Z 250. For this vintage 2012, KTM does not really give it his 250 SX-F, but given the success of the electric starter on the 350 and 450, why not share it with the youngest of the Cross range 4-stroke?

By bye kick…

Side equipment and finishes, there is still nothing wrong with KTM that pampers as it should each of its motorcycles. Note that just the kick lever, less necessary than Enduro Cross, disappears altogether in favor of the electric starter. It also compensates for the slightly overweight-related starter mechanism.

More rigorous, as playful

In track, there has been no change in ergonomics: it feels good; it fits perfectly the bike between her legs. From the first ride, the chassis is docile and playful. The suspensions, too soft last year, were reviewed and a lot less tailgating despite the many jumps of the circuit. The SX-F also shows very playful and does not mind sending the whip and cushioning.

In the holes, the reactions are excellent: the Kate remains online and do not guidance, whether accelerating, with the back at full load, or under braking in the rough stuff. In short the KTM 250 puts trust in quickly.

Voluntary, “two and a half”

Motor side, the Austrian boiler always responds. You could blame him last year to be slightly sanitized by electronic fuel injection, but on the surface very slippery circuit Munich, flexibility does wonders. The KTM 250 SX-F is not too punchy, but how effective! The motor force is impressive, and will extract corners in 3rd gear does not absolutely scares the beast.

It should also say that is very often found on reports 3 and 4, the first appearing almost useless. Like last year, the layering speeds seem a little short, forcing me to constantly play selector. But this is probably what allows using the KTM 250 SX-F without touching the clutch.

Conclusion: The same as – a little – better

Again this year, the KTM SX250F should play in the top of the “league” of the Cross 250. This was the case last year, and some changes to the Kate beneficent still together. The suspensions are more convincing, the chassis stable and maneuverable gain trust and the engine is efficient and easy to operate both: good at all.

And the electric starter in this entire Well, it brings happiness to “kick the lazy” and, best of all, do not felt in control. For more picky, the energy expended because of the extra weight of the starter (1.5 kg according KTM) is offset by that which is saved in sessions after a drop kick. Finally, the discount is Orange race again this year: show your license or Foley FFM, the rate is € 090 € 8 to € 7,290.

A good reason to go to Orange!
