The much-talked about international bikes, Harley bikes, is finally coming to India. The American bike maker, Harley Davidson, had announced announced its product range in Delhi Auto Expo, 2010. The company launched 12 variants from five Harley Davidson family. The most popular one is Harley Davidson Sportster. The model has four variants; viz, Harley Davidson XL 883L Sportster, Harley Davidson XL 883R Roadster, Harley Davidson XL 1200N Nightster, Harley Davidson XR 1200X.
This cruiser bike, Harley Davidson Sportster, has been blessed with different engine capacities. The Harley Davidson XL 883L Sportster comes with 883cc engine. The engine is comprised of air cooled, evolution. The engine of the bike generates a maximum power of J1349 and pumps out a top torque of 74.56 Nm at 3500 rpm.
It has got a wheelbase of 1524mm. The wheels of the Harley Davidson Sportster comes in silver, 13 spokes cast aluminium. The other option is chrome, laced steel.
The Harley Davidson XL 883L Sprotster is having 12.4 litre of fuel tank.

The Roadster of Harley Davidson Sportster has a wheelbase of 1520mm.
And the engine of the bike produces EEC/95/1 and develops a peak torque of 70 Nm at 3750 rpm.
The 1202cc Harley Davidson XL 1200N Nightster is loaded with with the same powertrain. The engine capacity of this Harley Davidson Sportster is 1202cc. The Harley Davidson Sportster sports 1510mm of wheelbase and 12.49 litrs fuel tank. The wheel type is black and laced steel.
The powerplant of the bike is capable of churning EEC/95/1 of maximum power and belts out 98 Nm of top torque at 3,200 rpm. The other similar variant is Harley Davidson XR 1200X. The powerplant of the bike pumps out EEC/95/1 of top power and churn out a maximum torque of 100 Nm at 3700 rpm. This Harley Davidson Sportster has got front dual 4 piston fixed brake while the rear brake is single piston floating.
Harley Davidson Sportster boasts of largest ground clearance of 150mm. The wheelbase of the Harley Davidson XR 1200X is 1515mm. The bike has 13.3 litres of petrol tank capacity.
All the variants of Harley Davidson Sportster come with five speed gearbox, ELECTRONIC SEQUENTIAL PORT FUEL INJECTION (ESPFI), self and kick start and same tyre specification. The front brake is dual piston and rear one is single piston in all the variants. The Harley Davidson Sportster comes in stunning and stylish four colours that include flame blue pearl, brilliant blue pearl, scarlet red and vivid black. The body colour is painted at front fender, fuel tank and rear mud-guard.
Apart from these, the Harley Davidson Sportster bikes have all black treatment. However, the staggered shorty silencer comes in chrome finish with dual mufflers. Front and rear forks and spokes of the bike has also chrome finish. The footpegs are mid-mounted, fuel tank comes in classic peanut size.
The company has used lowest suspensions and short handlebars in Harley Davidson Sportster . The only exception in the model range is Harley Davidson XR1200X. It has black 3 spoke cast aluminium wheels and a different styled dual muffler.
Harley Davidson SPORTSTER Designing
The Harley Davidson Sportster is a longer bike and has fat tyres at rear side. The overall length of XL 883L Sporster is 2263.14mm, height is 642.6mm and saddle height is 668.02mm. Whereas the ground clearance is 99.06mm. It has a wheelbase of 1524mm.
One another variant of Harley Davidson Sportster is XL 883R. It’s overall length is 2245mm, height is 760mm and ground clearance is 141mm. It is provided with a lower wheelbase, 1520mm, than XL 883L. The Harley Davidson Sportster ‘s third variant is XL 1200N Nightster and it’s length is 2179mm.
The overall height of the vehicle is 642.6mm and it has a ground clearance of 99.06mm. Whereas the saddle height is 668mm. The fourth and most popular Harley Davidson Sportster model is XL 1200X.
The overall length of the bike is 2225mm. The height of the machine is 795mm. Whereas the ground clearance of the bike is 150mm. The wheelbase of the machine is 1515mm.
The Harley Davidson Sportster is the world popular cruiser bike. It is provided with chrome finished steel laced wheels and 13 and 3 spoke cast aluminium wheels. The Harley Davidson Sportster XL 883L has steel 13 spoke cast aluminium wheels and optional chrome laced steel wheels.
While XL1200N has been fitted with chrome finished steel laced wheels and the XL 883 R has got 13 spoke cast aluminium black wheels. The Harley Davidson XR 1200X has been blessed with 3 spoke cast aluminium black wheels with orange pinstripe. All the variants of Harley Davidson Sportster has been fitted with air cooled, evolution engine with 1202cc and 883cc engines. The higher end variant of Harley Davidson Sportster . XR1200X, is powered by an air cooled, evolution engine with a displacement of 1202cc. This massive engine produces a peak power of EEC/95/1 and churn out a top torque of 100 Nm at 3700 rpm. ELECTRONIC SEQUENTIAL PORT FUEL INJECTION (ESPFI) is incorporated in the bike for better results.
However, it should be clear to bike lovers that these kind of mean machines are not meant for fuel efficiency conscious people. For riding the bike up to 100 km, you need to have 45 litres of petrol. Whereas the fuel tank capacity of the Harley Davidson Sportster is 13.3 litres.
The Harley Davidson Sportster has four variants with different engines. You can differentiate the engine with its maximum torque output. The Harley Davidson XL 883L Sportster has got an air cooled, Evolution engine with 883cc displacement.
The engine produces a maximum power of J1349 and generates a maximum torque of 74.56 Nm at 3500 rpm.
The Harley Davidson Sportster XL 883R Roadster has been blessed with the same engine as XL 883L Sportster with a displacement of 883cc. Apart from this, the maximum power output is EEC/95/1 and torque output is 70 Nm at 3750 rpm. However the wheelbase of the bike is 1520mm. It is higher than its sibling.
The higher end version of the Harley Davidson Sportster XL 1200N Nightster comes loaded with the same engine but with a higher engine cc i.e. 1200cc. This engine is capable of producing a peak power of J1349 and belting out a top torque of 107.10 Nm at 4000 rpm. Nevertheless, it’s wheelbase is 1524mm. The other higher-end variant is Harley Davidson Sportster XR1200X.
As other variant of Harley Davidson Sportster, it also houses the same powertarin with a 1202cc of displacement. The powerplant of the machine does generate EEC/95/1 of maximum power and pumps out a peak torque of 100 Nm at 3700 rpm. The bike has a wheelbase of 1515mm.
Apart from these, the fuel system is Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI). All the variants has five-speed manual transmission. The XL 883R Roadster has black, 13 spoke cast aluminium wheels while XL 883L Sporster has 13 spoke cast aluminium wheels and optional chrome finished steel laced wheels. Whereas the XR 1200X has black 3 spoke cast aluminium black wheels with orange pinstripe.
The rear and front tyre of this Harley Davidson variant are bigger than rest of the bikes. But the similar engine capacity variant, XL 1200N has got black steel laced wheels. As far as the brakes are concerned, Harley Davidson Sportster XL 883L, XL 883R and XL 1200N have front dual piston and rear single piston disc brakes.
On the other hand, Harley Davidson Sportster XR 1200X have been fitted with dual four piston, fixed front and single piston floating at rear end.
Harley Davidson SPORTSTER Braking And Handling
The Harley Davidson Sportster has been incorporated with several advanced systems including latest braking system, suspension and larger wheelbase. Harley Davidson Sportster comes with dual four piston fixed front brakes and rear single piston floating brakes. And the rest of the variants have been installed with front dual piston and rear single piston brakes. The braking system becomes smarter and quick with pistons added.
The advanced brakes not only enhance instant braking but also sporty look of the Harley Davidson Sportster . The Harley Davidson Sportster bikes are loaded with larger wheelbase between 1510mm to 1520mm. This larger wheelbase is responsible for stability of the bike. It also reduce chances of skidding on bad roads. The handlebars are shorter and rigid.

Harley Davidson SPORTSTER Colors
The Harley Davidson Sportster comes in four stunning colours. The colours are flame blue pearl, brilliant blue pearl, scarlet red and vivid black. The body colour is painted only at front fender, petrol tank and rear fender.
The muffler, shockers, wheels and some of the engine parts are chrome finished. Apart from this, rest of the body is having black treatment. The company has used only a few graphics on the Harley Davidson Sportster . The biggest graphic can be seen on the petrol tank.
The engine capacity of the Harley Davidson Sportster bikes is carved on the engine itself, that is clearly visible.
