History
Scorpio is the model designation for motorcycles, which were built in 1994-2004 by the company Zschopau MDGs in seven different versions. The main differences between the models are the front panel, the seat and the chain translation (secondary reduction ratio).

The MZ engineers had originally planned two Scorpio variants: Sport and Tour. They differed from each other by covering (had the sport a brief half-shell while the tour no panel has), the seat (stepped individual seats in the sport, through Bank Tour), and defined by different handlebar and footrest adapters sitting position (athletic gathered at sports, relaxed upright in the Tour).
Already in 1995 the factory wanted to celebrate his successful participation in the single-cylinder racing series Sound of Singles (SoS) with a race replica. The motorcycle was based on the sport, but was wearing a full fairing. A light, raised Sebring dual exhaust system replaced the single damper, and handlebars and footpegs were somewhat noble. But the biggest difference to the standard product was the white power suspension.
The upside-down fork and the spring strut with the characteristic white spring gave the Scorpion Replica a real racing machine outfit that the Brembo double disk brake and light Marchesini wheels rounded off. In this trim, the scorpion looked like the real single-athletes fans they had always wanted. However, they cost 15,400 DM with not much less than the Japanese super sports with more than 100 hp.
MuZ produced the Replica as a limited edition of 250 units and marked.
Even with full fairing, but for a completely different purpose, the Traveller came in 1996. It was essentially a fully enclosed tour for the MZ factory offered a case system.
In 1998 MZ underwent a revision of the entire series. Here, the plant reacted mainly to the continuing criticism of the miserable quality of some vendor parts. Finally, the motorcycles were shapely and durable instruments.
Tour and travel from now drove with a steel handlebar instead of the stub, and there were new colors. In this trim, the series then ran to the end of production in 2003.
In addition to these four main variants MZ trying to discover new niches. As a motorcycle was initiated by the work of brand race series, the Scorpio was 660 Cup and Cup as effective entry into the race this now privately organized Markencup still enjoys great popularity.
One of the most beautiful, not gone into production studies, the Sport Classic, which the company introduced in 1997. It was a sport without fairing and with spoked wheels, a throwback to the cafe racers of the sixties. It originated in Zschopau only two prototypes.
Officially, the program was for the fighters to use up a mix of travelers and Replica, probably served for surplus parts. It should have been built about 10 pieces. The 75-year production anniversary in 1997 celebrated the Zschopauer with a special series that stood out from other colors of the standard models.

Exact production figures are not known, the locations of the motorcycles are mainly found in Saxony, particularly the traffic police of the cities of Leipzig, Chemnitz and Dresden. Some vehicles are still in use.
