One of the best, Stafford Motor Speedway, is a semi-banked half mile paved in oval shape and situated in Stafford Springs, in the district of Connecticut. It is also a part of the famous and prestigious NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.
Not only this, it also hosts several other racing events on the NASCAR Whelen Modifies Tour every year and draws a huge crowd of fans and cheerleaders. Let’s trace the roots of Stafford Motor Speedway.
Formerly this racing track was known as Stafford Springs Agricultural Park. It was used as a half mile horse racing facility till the end of the horrible Second World War. After war , it switched to automobile racing from horse racing.
It became the NASCAR track in the year of 1959 as a dirt track, and the owner was Mal Barlow who was an auto dealer settled in Rockville. In 1967, the property was passed in to the hands of Arute brothers, Chuck Arute and Jack Arute and later on paved it.
It always has been in the hands of the family and now Mark Arute, son of Jack Arute, holds the reign of this racing track. The track boasts of many notable and famous racers. Geoff Bodine, Jerry Cook, Ron Bouchard, Dale Earnhardt, Tim Richmond, Bill Wimble, Ted Christopher, Ernie Gahan, Richie Evans, Jimmy Spencer, and Don McTavish.
These drivers have always set the track on fire whenever they raced. Fans make a beeline for tickets when the races begin only because of them.
