SUZUKI GW250 NAKED BIKE 250CC CONTENDER
Honda with its CBR-250R . Kawasaki with its Ninja 250R and now it is time for Suzuki with its GW250 . There are many more choices now in the market for 250cc motorcycles . Suzuki has come out with this Gw250 with much of the styling taken from the popular Suzuki B-King (1,340cc). The Suzuki GW250 or baby B-King is likely the model name for Suzuki’s answer to the 250cc motorcycle market .
The Suzuki GW250 was shown at the CIMA exhibition in China. Back than it was shown as a concept model but now, just a few months later, Suzuki has announced its plans for launching the GW250 in China, Suzuki also confirmed that they will sell the Suzuki GW250 in South-East Asian countries.
In term of Suzuki GW250 specs . it is powered by a 250cc parallel twin liquid-cooled engine, which to the concept specifications has a claimed 26 horsepower and 24 Nm of torque. The whole engine setup is very similar to the Kawasaki Ninja 250R. Although its direct competitor in terms of power and weight can be found in the Kawasaki Ninja 250R which also comes with a parallel twin engine however, the Ninja 250R develops more power than the Suzuki GW250. But Suzuki’s specifications for GW250 are still based of the specifications shown at the Chinese motor-show .
Manufacturer Suzuki finally sure to bring motor sport to the 250-cc two-wheeler automotive markets of Asean. When you look at the Suzuki GW250 adopt design from Suzuki B-King, if the whole naked-bike design and looks lives up to the original concept Suzuki showed at the China motor show we can expect Suzuki to become a serious player in the 250cc motorcycle market.
It’s unknown if Suzuki will produce that Suzuki GW250 in Thailand, but even if they aren’t regional Free-Trade-Agreements will surely keep the price down. Not get your hopes up of seeing the Suzuki GW250 soon in the Suzuki dealer around the corner, Suzuki confirms that regional distribution is not scheduled before 2012. For some of use it gives us some time to start saving some money, and maybe even convert the girl of the house you need more than just one motorcycle.
However, unlike the Honda and Kawasaki who prefer to put forward sprt engined 250 cc bike with full fairing model by including the Ninja 250 and CBR 250R, Suzuki seems to want something different. Because instead went along to include a full set of fairing sport bike, Suzuki chose to make GW250 become a motor sport naked bike shirtless alias. This motor can be viewed as a seriousness that want to market Suzuki 250 cc motorcycles.
Suzuki is likely to make Thailand as the birthplace of GW250. That way the possibility of this bike to enter Malaysia will be even greater because between Asean countries such as Indonesia and Thailand tied to regional agreements that allow each motor to be down taxes that will ultimately reduce among Asean countries to give a more affordable bike .
It is great to see manufacturers fighting to get the piece of the pie from the 250cc market since this is where the beginners starts to learn riding superbikes . and if the bikes are good enough, the manufacturer might just get loyal customer who might buy the much bigger superbikes.
It is rumored that this model might comes to ASEAN market. By ASEAN, does it means it include Malaysia. With the Kawasaki Ninja 250R, Honda CBR250R, and planned Suzuki GW250, I’m wondering if Yamaha is going to introduce a motorcycle with an 250cc engine.
