Test X -Max Evolis 125 Maximizing

In the wake of X -Max 400i launched in spring 2013. Yamaha scooters evolved its 125/250 cc and their equivalents MBK Skycruiser. renamed Evolis. LAU has taken the measure of the X -Max 125 and Evolis during their Paris show.

First try.

The argument of ” Made in France ”

Eric Seynes. CEO of Yamaha Motor France. nor had coated his sailor Armor Lux, nor his red cap in Scottish wool to praise the French manufacturing scooters Yamaha X -Max and MBK Evolis. both designed in the Yamaha factory in Saint -Quentin (02). At least in major part because some machining aluminum parts and supply of engine casting remain vested in the Italian subsidiary Moto Minarelli in Bologna .

Anyway. we can only applaud the unwavering optimism of this man and his fighting face to a French market two -wheelers 125 cc heavily impacted by the economic crisis (-49 % in three years). Despite this unfavorable context and sales divided by two. the duo Yamaha / MBK curates nearly 23% market share and leadership in the 125 cc class .

However, it was time to give a facelift to the bestseller 125. launched in 2006 and redesigned in 2010. An update much easier it is based on the work already done for the design of the recent X -Max 400i. which has the double advantage of standardizing aesthetically three models in the range (125, 250 400 ) proposed in each of the two brands.

Yamaha X -Max 125 and MBK Evolis therefore inherit naturally the most modern and elegant wrapping 400i model. with a front and rear axle enhanced. panels “boomerang ” redesigned on either side of the central tunnel. new headlights and turn signals. a taillight lEDs, a new saddle and new multi -spoke wheels. Like the 400. integrated to the body act as baffles handguards .

The tubular frame is of course based on the recent 400 cc. itself derived from the former X -Max 250. but stronger and lighter (-1 .5 kg ). This framework has also been reworked to offer “10%” additional capacity under-seat storage (47 liters in total, two full plus a few personal effects helmets ) .

There are also two pockets (one lockable left) and their respective traps. more fragile than one piece of the previous model appearance .

The instrument panel is much less for its qualitative and readable than the new 400 or even 125 old part. Fully digital. it nevertheless includes speedometer, tachometer and fuel level gauge on the left dial, trip computer and gauge water temperature on the right .

You can read the outside temperature, instant fuel consumption and average battery charge, average speed, ice warning, hour and even partial information (travel time and cons of the trip). A new command to the right stalk. which replaces the stop switch allows to switch from one to the other info while warnig is retained.
