2013 KTM 690 R Enduro question

For 2013 the change interval is every 10,000km (
6,200 miles). I have 3300 miles on mine and am planning on changing my oil and sending it off for analysis to get an idea on if it’ll really go 6,000 miles between changes.
The procedure is simple. Two screens, a drain plug and two oil filters, all accessible after the skid-plate (two screws) is removed. I had a few tiny metal flakes at 600 miles but that’s to be expected with break in.
The vibes to me are not bothersome and are smoothing out the more miles I put on. It’s not as smooth as a twin but I have no issue riding for 2 hours at 75mph on the interstate. I do have an aftermarket seat (seat concepts) which I would call necessary.
The stock tires make the bars vibrate some and also make the bike a little twitchy on the interstate above 70mph. I’ve since put a TKC on the front and a Metzler sahara 3 on the back which are naturally much better at speed then the knobby stock MT-21’s.
Passenger pegs come with the bike as mentioned by others. I put mine on and I think carrying a passenger wouldn’t cause any problems with the bike, you may consider upgrading the gas tank bolts if you plan on hauling passengers/luggage a lot (known issue). Also the stock rear spring is very soft you’ll probably want to replace with a stiffer one.
I would call the bikes reliable, but there are a few known issues. If you want absolutely no maintenance then it’s probably not the best bike for you. Valve checks take me an hour open to close, maybe an hour and 15 if I have to replace shims.
It will take you a little longer if you keep the emissions equipment on the bike.
I have Wolfman Luggage Racks, crossbar/brace, and top rack which is very solid. I just got back from a weekend of camping off the bike while riding rough dirt trails and roads. With the upgraded tank bolts I had no issues at all.

my second oil change. I think I did it after 600 miles or so. maybe 12 hours riding. I definitely noticed it performed better after the oil change. so I take the ktm recommendations and heave them. ps.
I also took qtips and went into the area with them where the screen filters were. I was able to get quite a bit of metal shards out. oil change second time now was a breeze. can do in my sleep now. love my 690
