Ducati 996 R

Ducati 996R – £  SOLD

This bike, number 46 of 56 units built until 29 th January 2001 for the UK market, was delivered by ProTwins on 24 th July 2001. All 350 customer versions of the 996R sold out within six hours on launch day via the internet at a common worldwide price of 26,000 Euros.

Ducati were required to build 500 996R’s for homologation under Superbike racing rules. It is in effect a road legal version of the bike which won the 2001 Superbike World Championship ridden by Troy Bayliss.

It’s not just a cosmetic replica, or an up-spec’d base model 996. It is a factory racer with lights, it was the closest thing to a full-on works racer that money could buy – or that Ducati has built to date. It came standard with top shelf Ohlins race suspension, super powerful Brembo brakes and the same lightweight Magnesium Marchesini race wheels as on the works racers.

It also came with Ducati’s new short stroke 998cc Testastretta powerplant, complete with sandcast crankcases and titanium connecting rods as found on the factory racebikes.

Throw in with front and rear paddock stands, race-kit carbon fibre Termignoni exhausts and full carbon fairings. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a fast appreciating limited production classic Ducati. This stunning looking machine is phenomenal to ride or it could be an amazing piece of art inside a house where it has spent most of its life so far.

The bike was first serviced by ProTwins and again in may 2013 the it was again reviewed and prepared by Protwins for use on the road including replacement belts and fork seals.

It comes with both keys, ‘R’ manual, bike cover, front and rear stands, and Swansea V5 and second service invoice from Protwins. Ducati dealership Pro Twins have confirmed that they carried out the first free service. Most of its life this bike had been de-commissioned: battery removed, tank drained, fuel pipes off the pump, etc. If the machine has been run, the fuel is always drained and the oil and filter changed before laying it up.

Last year the coolant was changed also. The machine will be offered for sale complete with battery and fuel. Although relatively few miles have been covered the bike is nevertheless 12 years old, as are the tyres which have been left for the next owner to select their desired compound.

Presented in effectively ‘as new’ condition, this beautiful 996R represents a wonderful opportunity to acquire what was the ultimate road-legal Ducati of its day.
