Ducati at Intermot with the New Monster 1100 and the GT 1000 Touring

Cologne (Germany) 7th October 2008 – an exhibition area of 800 square metres (hall 8, stand F59, will house the Ducati world at the 2008 INTERMOT show in Cologne. With bikes, accessories and clothing on show, the Bologna-based company will present many new products for 2009 at this important international trade show.

The undeniable star of the show will be the highest performing version of the “naked”, the Monster 1100, the result of “made in Borgo-Panigale” technological know-how.

Dedicated to those who appreciate the extreme, the jewel that combines style, sporting excellence and performance is equipped with the 1100 cc Desmodromic L-twin engine, famous the world over for its torque and breathtaking acceleration.

Characterised by a new and beautifully-shaped single sided swing-arm, high level of componentry, race-oriented chassis and 15 years of evolution, the new Monster 1100 – which it would probably be more accurate to call “The absolute Monster” – takes its place at the top of the Monster range, which continues to grow after 15 years of success.

Another interesting product to be exhibited at the show is the new GT 1000 Touring, an evolution of the Sport Classic family in terms of its components and accessories. The bike, produced in gloss black, has it classic looks accentuated with chrome handlebars, luggage rack and front and rear fenders.

The new colour option for the Hypermotard 1100 and Multistrada 1100 S,

a pearl white, is the final innovation to be presented by Ducati at INTERMOT, alongside the whole of the current collection.

INTERMOT is also the first public opportunity that Ducati has had to be able to celebrate its recently won 2008 World Superbike titles – rider and constructor – titles that Troy Bayliss brought home from last week’s round at Magny-Cours.

Troy’s race bike, as well as Casey Stoner’s GP bike, will of course be a central feature of the stand in Cologne.

“We have decided to strengthen our presence at Cologne”, stated Gabriele Del Torchio, Ducati’s CEO, during the show’s opening press conference, “because we understand the importance of this trade show, the show that opens the season of European industry exhibitions. Our strong presence here also demonstrates our commitment with regard to the German clients as well as clarifying our intention to grow in the German market, the second most important European market for Ducati. For these reasons we have decided to present the Monster 1100 and the new GT 1000 Touring for the first time here.”

Gabriele Del Torchio also commented on the results of the first six months of 2008, stating that, “Despite the slowing of the motorcycle market across the world, with sales in Europe falling by more than 7%, Ducati, thanks to its products and to the quality of its distribution networks has grown by roughly 8% with regard to the previous year.”

During the opening press conference a new safety campaign was also highlighted, with Ducati announcing their intention to add a new back protector to every motorcycle sold in Europe.

“We are among those to have signed up to the campaign promoted by the European Community, “25 lives to save””, said Gabriele Del Torchio. “Ducati,

along with its sales networks, is a strong believer in safety, something that we always have in mind when developing the new bikes, the technical clothing and protections. In order to consolidate this effort, we have decided that, from today, every bike that we sell in Europe will come with a high quality back protector, that not only bears the correct standards of homologation but also raises the safety levels for all of the Ducatisti.”

INTERMOT is open to the public until Sunday 12th October.
